Kings' Christmas Cracker Event
On Thursday 13th December, Kings’ School held its very first ‘Christmas Cracker’ event. The interest from the companies operating at Kings’ was so great that the Sports Hall and the attached Community Centre room were the only areas big enough to cope. Twenty of the Kings’ Enterprise Companies were joined by 12 Year 7 Fair trade Companies and 2 Faith in Football projects. Groups from Oliver’s Battery, St Faith’s and Compton Schools also joined in with the festivities. The atmosphere was further enhanced by the Kings’ School Choir singing festive carols and popular songs.
The event was opened by the Lord Mayor of Winchester Mr Chris Pines and his wife, who spent time walking amongst the stalls chatting to the pupils and buying a present or two. Parents and guests enjoyed the informality of the evening with the children promoting their products and services. Gifts ranged from jewellery to calendars, homemade Christmas crackers to USB sticks! Food and drink were a plenty with two of the Kings’ Enterprise companies enticing guests to buy fruit kebabs coated in flowing chocolate followed by homemade healthy smoothies. Mince pies and mulled wine were on offer for those with the more traditional tastes.
Feedback from everyone concerned was hugely positive, the children had great fun chatting to customers and promoting themselves as well as their gifts. Parents and teachers agreed that this event had been a great success and the Christmas Cracker ’08 is in the calendar for December.
